INSPIRED BY NATURE:
Here is another gem to visit next year – The Nature Garden Festival held at the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire in France. This looks to be an absolute delight for the senses. The diversity and quality of the projects have contributed to the festival’s international reputation. The Nature Garden Festival has become a well-known meeting place for a new generation of landscape gardeners, architects and designers where their work is showcased. This above installation belongs to Artist Francois Mechain called ‘Arbres aux Echelles”, (translated “Trees with Ladders). A beautiful, evocative display inviting visitors ‘to ascend to see the world differently’. The next International Garden Festival will be held from 22 April until 16 October 2011.
Below: “Toit a Terre” by designer Rainer Gross positioned his sculpture as part of the festival against a backdrop of the Loire.

Nature uses a few simple, self-similar, and repeating patterns to build atoms into the familiar outlines of everything from elements and molecules to rocks, trees, and ourselves. If nature is made of repeating patterns, than to understand something on a small scale provides a powerful window into similar forms on a grand scale. There is no wonder why it is we immerse ourselves in our natural environment, a peaceful feeling arises naturally.

This sensory experience was found in Paris just last month, created by designer Amaury Gallon and initiated by the Dutch Flower Council. Passers-by were sure to notice a gigantic transparent bubble filled with a diverse selection of plant material giving visitors a generous dose of green, oxygen-rich life. Each walk-in bubble measured some 60 cubic metres and was roughly big enough to accommodate just two visitors at a time, creating a private and intense sensory experience. The aim of the pop-up experience was to reconnect people with plants and their importance in our lives.

These garden decorations of a different kind caught our eye. They are used fishing nets wrapped in colorful string found on the beach. The tactile qualities of these sculptures allows for a dance of shadows in the afternoon sun. Good for a contemplative moment over the festive season and a playful addition for this outdoor space.

The work of Sydney artists Cardamatis and Saad invites the viewer into a close encounter with the Australian Native Landscape. Through their painstakingly ordered displays of seed casings, you cannot escape being in awe of the detail and perfection to be found in nature. Their work can be commissioned for outdoor sculptures or indoor artworks.

English artist Pete Dungey has taken it upon himself to create mini gardens inside the ‘dreaded’ pothole. This optimistic focus is Pete’s positive solution to turn an otherwise unhappy occurrence into a moment for a smile. It’s a ‘glass half full’ approach to make you take notice and saves your tyres at the same time!
